What is a Reprise?
A 'Reprise' is a new word for a long established practice amongst successful artists. It refers to a painting which is a new version of the original composition. This differs slightly but recognisably from the 'Original' painting and is also finished by the artist corner-to corner. The Reprise offers clients the opportunity to own a piece that has already sold, at a lower cost and to their own specifications. There are a very limited number of Reprises per original; sometimes James refuses to repeat a picture. Both Original and Reprise are signed. Both come with brass plaques fixed to the back containing signed calfskin manuscripts attesting to the painting's status and all its details.
