Essence & Time, shared between the collections of Jonathan Cooper Gallery and Salamon Fine Arts (Milan), brings together the unflinchingly observed and beautifully honest work of the great master animal painter, Marzio Tamer. His subjects are 'suspended' and 'lavished in time' (Salamon, 2021), and have a unique quality that gallerists and collectors alike struggle to pin point. However they are immediately recognisable as the perfect visions of Tamer. What he distills in his representations—across the choice of the quality of the space in the picture, and the detailed rendering and position of its objects and subjects—is something of the essence of the animal: a moment epitomising a nature and character of these species. What is more, the exquisite drama of his moments carry on their stage the force of time: the extraordinary time clearly dedicated to the master craft of his pictures, hand in hand with perhaps the spectre of the time left for their ambiguous, or altogether absent habitats.
