Rebecca Campbell's new show is a celebration of colours, how they infuse and enrich our lives. They affect our moods, greens soothes the soul, red inflames passion and yellow brings joy.
Colours illuminate our language; in the pink, in good health: purple patch, a flush of success; out of the blue, out of no where.
They are often used in symbolism, sometimes in different cultures with different meanings. White, in the Western world, purity; in the East it's often associated with death. Here, red is a warning sign, in China, it's auspicious. Green, life, resurrection and mother earth.
In India there's a whole festival dedicated to colour, Holi. It's a celebration of the end of winter, entire villages throng the streets jubliently throwing multi coloured powder into the air.
Campbell has created 24 new joyful paintings with a desire to celebrate life, love and nature through the prism of colours.
As David Hockney says, “Life is better in colour.”
She has developed her talent to create an original and unique style which plays upon imaginative narratives and the beauty of nature. Her work celebrates many cultures, her influences are eclectic, these include: a love of nature and gardens from her Irish childhood and a love of the east from her travels seeing Indian Mughal miniatures, Persian textiles and medieval tapestries.
Rebecca Campbell is an award winning artist exhibiting with Jonathan Cooper since 2002 as well as internationally. We're delighted to be showing her latest collection A Festival of Colour in September.
