Alan Kingsbury's first solo exhibition was held at Jonathan Cooper's Park Walk gallery exactly thirty five years ago in 1988, the year that Jonathan first opened the gallery.
To celebrate this joint anniversary, both artist and dealer have come together once again in 2023 to mount this special exhibition of vintage works of a kind that are now rarely seen on the art market.
Alan has looked back at his career and selected a group of paintings from his own collection which were made during the twenty year period 1989 to 2009, a time when he concentrated on figure compositions that had their own quirky narrative style and retrospective aesthetic.
Inquisitive, observational, sometimes touching on the surreal, Alan's work of this period is mostly small in scale and painted with a keen eye and characteristically assured brushwork.
Many of these paintings have never been exhibited before and all can be counted as the artist's personal favourites.
